Photography - Mystery Foal Revealed

Description

YES! The Mystery Mare has foaled! For pictures of her see the 4 thumbs above. The sire to this foal is a Bay Appaloosa [who can be seen in the last thumb].

This colt is a charcoal chocolate color with BLUE eyes. No white markings that are obvious at the moment. And no freckling present. These pictures were however taken at about 36 hours old.

My unexpert [cause lets face it, I ain't a gene expert. I just have a gene hobby ;)] opinion on this foal is that the blue eyes will turn amber/gold with age[as happens in champagnes, and how lots of dogs and babies start with blue eyes and end up with gold/brown eyes]. As for that coat. It could be Smokey Black or Smokey Brown since those were two things tossed around. I'd lean toward Black but  I am looking at these pictures compared to some I found of a silver smokey black gypsy as a baby, and they look pretty similar....

Let me know what you think of this handsome fella!

Left pictures show his eyes and right pictures show his color. BTW, in that top left picture, the mare in the back is a sooty buckskin that looks bay :D

All images belong to *painted-cowgirl, as I took them with my camera with permission to photograph the baby. None of this is stock and nobody is allowed to use it under any circumstances.

Any chance to get a few shots of him in his non-birth coat? It's so hard to say anything with all the natal underpigmentation and super bleaching going on XD Although I could wager he's 1) bay or seal brown based 2) probably a single cream dilute 3) possibly also a silver dapple. I've seen a few really exotic Icelandics and based on those the lil' guy could well be an all-too-convinving faux grullo these days...
